The 2014 harvest was a record year as growers received the highest recorded field price. The 2015 minimum field price is $1.22 per pound, the second highest opening price ever. Turkey is expected to produce a late crop of about 700,000 tons. Rains in the Black Sea region, where most of Turkey’s hazelnuts are grown, have delayed the crop entering the market. Willamette is the longest running full service hazelnut supplier in America. 2015 Crop Forecast, how they did it
The 2015 Oregon Hazelnut Production Forecast was released late August. Hazelnuts are Oregon’s 8th leading producing commodity. The USDA performed a series of tests to gather information about the upcoming crop. Here’s how they conducted the survey: Sample size was 300 orchards, 282 were submitted. Samples trees and branches were picked at random. Nuts from each orchard were taken, counted and subsampled. Husks were pealed away. Hazelnuts were sized. Nuts were then cracked


Salmon with Hazelnut Relish
Ingredients ½ cup blanched hazelnuts 1 garlic clove, chopped 1 cup (packed) fresh cilantro leaves with tender stems ½ cup (packed) fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves with tender stems 1 tablespoon capers 1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest ½ cup olive oil Kosher salt 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 4 6-oz. pieces skin-on salmon fillets 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces 2 heads Little Gem or other small lettuce, leaves separated Preparation Preheat oven to 400°.
